THE NEXT BIG THING

My fellow author and Momentum compadre, Nathan Farrugia, had asked me before Christmas to participate in a blog challenge doing the rounds amongst some writerly types called 'The Next Big Thing'. In it, the writer blogs about their latest writing project and tags five other authors to blog their experiences too. I like that it's creating a collective online record of what writers are working on at this point in time - what is, in my humble view, a pretty exciting time to be involved in the publishing industry.

For what it's worth, here's my two cents on the latest goings on from deep within the Chez Allen mancave.

RECOGNISING MY SUPPORT NETWORK

Sitting here today, putting the very final touches on Hunter, the second in the Alex Morgan Intrepid series, I realised these two action thriller novels would not have been half as good if I weren't perched on the shoulders of some very legendary blokes and ladies.

It's important then that I digress from my usual writing of Serbian war criminals being brought to justice, rogue intelligence officers getting their just desserts, criminal gun-runners caught at the last minute, all by the hardy Alex Morgan and his band of merry Intrepid agents, to recognise some of those working behind-the-scenes to get me to the top of the suspense thriller best-seller lists and beyond.

CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL JAMES BOND DAY

Today is International James Bond Day, which marks the 50th anniversary of the release of the first 007 movie Dr No - making it one of the most successful and longest-running film franchises of all time. It's a milestone day for me, too, as I've just returned the structural edit of Hunter: Intrepid 2 back to my publisher, Joel Naoum, at Pan Macmillan's digital imprint, Momentum.

THE PROCESS TO RELEASE DEFENDER
It's a busy time in the writing mancave, after a short hiatus up to Northern NSW to visit my brothers. Handing in the first draft of Defender 2, it was no surprise that I needed a break. So driving 1500 kms to Lismore and back gave a real opportunity to zone out. Read More
MY TOP 5 ACTION THRILLER BOOK CHARACTERS

Some time ago I read a blog on Omnivoracious where they asked an author their top book characters of all time. It got me thinking, who are some of the characters from reading adventures that have ingrained themselves in my mind?

Here are my top five book characters - from Patricia Cornwell to legendary storytellers Ian Fleming and Arthur Conan Doyle.

AND THE WINNER OF A CHARACTER IN HUNTER IS...
What a fantastic Photo Comp we've had over the past couple of weeks to choose a person to have a character named after them in the new book! After some very enthusiastic voting for all our Defenders who posted photos of them in far-flung places, the winner was action man Brett Tappin, who crews helicopters offshore and whose winning photo was taken in a chopper above the Solomon Islands.
