Writing Blockbusters: what's the secret?

Join us for a special author panel session featuring authors from ThrillerEdge supported by Hornsby Library and Novella Fine Books Wahroonga.

These best-selling Australian thriller authors are obsessed with action, adventure and thriller novels and are spreading the enjoyment of reading gripping thriller tales worldwide.

ThrillerEdge is serious about boosting literacy levels in young people, through engaging readers at schools and youth-focused support groups. Their event-based program aims to encourage Australia’s young adults to get in touch with their imaginations, get their hands on the latest, greatest action thrillers and rekindle their love of reading.

On Saturday 6 September, Chris will join other authors on a panel called The Author as PR Machine.

These days promoting your book is very much part of the author's role, whether self-published or by a small or large publisher. A panel of authors discuss how they have gone about promoting their books either working alone, with a publisher or publicist. Featuring Summer Land (Summerlandish), Bruce McCabe (Skinjob), and Johanna Baker-Dowell (Business & Baby on Board).

Writing skills for teens 

Chris Allen is a retired Major and former Paratrooper his books explode with action, featuring elite agent Alex Morgan. Chris will take aspiring teenage authors through the basics of writing and organising a novel.

Chris Allen thriller writer will return to the Lake Macquarie Fellowship of Australian Writers to talk writing, publishing and marketing your books in 2014. 

Chris enjoys speaking to this engaged group on a regular basis and will travel up to the Central Coast for an enlightening session for all involved. 

Join Chris at the popular and renowned Warringah Booklovers' Club as he joins an engaged group to discuss action thrillers and writing in 2014 at Collaroy House.

The Warringah Booklovers' Club was started in 1953 by Josephine Quilty and has played an important role in the lives of local women throughout it's 60-year history. These days the club occupies the Narrabeen Tramshed, where it regularly hosts its 95 members and stores its ever-expanding library of more than 7,000 books.  

Join Chris Allen at NSW Writers' Centre on Friday 6 September for a morning of tea and cake and robust discussion about writing and publishing in 2013. 

Chris will be available to take your questions and share insights from his publishing trajectory at this informal event.

National Bookshop Day is a celebration of Australian bookshops and will highlight the important role bookshops play in local communities as well as Australian literature and culture. This year National Bookshop Day is on Saturday August 10.

Join Chris at Pages & Pages Bookstore, Mosman, as he takes over the till for an hour to celebrate National Bookshop Day. 

There will be books to sign, stories to tell, books to have a yarn about and most importantly people like you to meet and greet - not to mention the cash register to operate!

The Willoughby Hotel is one of Chris's favourite pubs having enjoyed many a fine pub meal, spent Anzac Days there, played trivia and watched the Swans Grand Final at the venue. 

A one-day seminar looking at the current state of publishing for Australian writers. The seminar brings together writers, publishers, marketers and agents to discuss what is happening in 2013.

​Chris will talk about how his formative years growing up in sleepy Perth in the 1970's and his experiences in the Australian and attached to the British and New Zealand Armies plus time with humanitarian aid agencies and providing government security advice post-9/11 helped him see the action he writes about in his best-selling series of thriller novels.​
